SOCIOECONOMIC TRANSFORMATIONS AND TERRITORIAL RECONFIGURAS IN THE AMAZON AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 21ST CENTURY

This article analyzes socioeconomic and territorial transformations in the Amazon since the beginning of the 21st century. After a summary of the main phases of the regional economy since the beginning of the imperialist stage of capitalism, the most recent phase is examined based on three situations: the dynamics of soybean production in the Amazon and its consequences in terms of the use of the labor force; the subordination of the economic ecological zoning policy in the state of Acre to interests linked to the production of primary goods, with emphasis on livestock and soybeans; and the importance of large economic projects to enable the production and distribution of mineral and agricultural commodities. In this case, an illustration of this fact is made through elements of a study on the consequences of the implementation of a hydroelectric plant in the state of Maranhão.
