Joseph Conrad and ‘literary impressionism’: a term best avoided?

Resumo

In this essay, I propose that, although the term ‘literary impressionism’ has clear historical credentials, it is best avoided in future analyses of Joseph Conrad’s work.

Biografia do Autor

Cedric Watts, University of Sussex

Cedric Watts served in the Royal Navy, 1956-8. He was an Exhibitioner at Pembroke College, Cambridge, 1958-61, graduating with a First in English. He also took his MA and Ph.D. at Cambridge University. He became a lecturer at Sussex University in 1965; a Reader in 1979; and a Professor in 1983. From 2002 to 2011 he was a Research Professor of English. In 2011 he became an Emeritus Professor of English.
